Michael Armstrong

Michael Armstrong, PhD, serves as the Chief Operating Officer for the Georgia Campaign for Adolescent Power & Potential (GCAPP) where he gets to lead a remarkable team of public health, program evaluation, health communications, and youth development leaders. Dr. Armstrong is a community psychologist with over twenty-five years of experience in nonprofit leadership, applied research, adolescent development, public health, and community development. Having served in a range of leadership positions throughout his career, he has strengthened, grown, and deepened the impact of each organization he has served. He has applied the principles of adaptive leadership and results-based accountability to transform teams and cultivate cultures of trust and accountability. Dr. Armstrong’s work in evaluation, research and strategic learning has led to program enhancements, continuous quality improvement, and systems change in the Out of School Time field, Georgia's public health system and within multiple non-profit organizations.
Before joining GCAPP as COO, he spent 10 years with the Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Atlanta where he led operations & programs, led the establishment of an outcome-based management system, the improvement of program quality and positive youth outcomes, the development of a social and emotional framework for programs, and the design of inclusive practices for strategic planning. Dr. Armstrong serves on multiple boards, councils, and committees, all dedicated to supporting the healthy development of youth and children throughout Georgia.
