Addressing Social Isolation, Loneliness, and Connection: Promising Strategies for Youth and Families
In 2023, the Surgeon General officially declared loneliness a public health epidemic, emphasizing that our youngest generations report the highest rates of loneliness. Unfortunately, this has significant effects on our health and well-being, including increased rates of depression, anxiety, stress, and suicidality. In this session, we will delve into these far-reaching effects, root causes of disconnection, and current legislative efforts to address this issue. Drawing on the Foundation for Social Connection’s SOCIAL Framework research reports and Action Guide for Building Socially Connected Communities, we will also explore strategies and resources that community leaders can employ to cultivate connection within families and the larger community.
