Regional Coalition: Resilient Southwest Georgia (Albany)
Mission & Broad Goals
Resilient Southwest Georgia, comprised of United Way of Southwest Georgia and 30+ coalition partners, seeks to raise awareness of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) and the toll they take on their community, increase collaboration across sectors, bring a trauma-informed approach, and promote resiliency in families and communities. The coalition believes that all are connected and all win when a child succeeds in school, when families are financially stable, and when people are healthy. To “Live United” means being a part of the change.
Therefore, Resilient Southwest Georgia is working to strengthen systems that result in long-lasting changes in the following ways:
-
Preventing and reducing suicide and suicidal ideation through ACEs identification and trauma-informed approaches
-
Understanding and addressing the social and structural inequities that put some children at greater risk for experiencing ACEs and subsequent suicidal ideations
-
Improving access to mental health services, decreasing alcohol misuse, preventing injuries and violence, and reducing chronic disease
-
Increasing sector awareness of the impact of trauma on the community and provide services for raising healthy children in safe, stable, nurturing environments
